In 2018, a tale of friendship began to unfold between two international students - Alejandra Angeles from Mexico and Claudia Viloria from Colombia.

As Claudia was preparing to leap across the globe, from beautiful Cartagena to Melbourne, she was full of questions about her forthcoming journey! Finding herself amidst a Facebook Group, she sought insights from those who'd made a similar journey.

Among the voices was Ale, offering advice and sharing her own experiences. A bond started to form between them, conversations with shared plans and aspirations. Upon her arrival in Melbourne in 2019, Claudia, not knowing a single soul, reached out to Ale. This sparked their first meet-up over lunch, and an immediate connection was felt.

In October 2019, inspired by their own migration journey, Ale and Clau launched 'Gals en Australia' with a mission to connect, empower, and uplift women in their community. Beginning with free workshops in Melbourne, they sought to provide the tools for both personal and professional growth. From improving LinkedIn profile and honing interview skills to navigating emotional wellbeing, they offered a wide spectrum of support.

Clau, with her nurturing spirit, helped the community blossom, providing support to thousands of incredible women. However, in July 2022, she chose to resign from her role as Director, pivoting her focus towards her Master's degree and professional commitments. Yet, without Claudia's genuine love and commitment to empowerment, Gals wouldn't be what it is today. Regardless of her role change, she will always be a foundational pillar of our community.

Fast forward to today, they're immensely proud of the thriving community that's home to over 11,000+ women. They've built not just a group, but a support network far from home, providing support and a safe space to those who've taken that brave leap into the unknown, just like they did.
